About the Transfer Series . . .
These pictures originate in reworking discovered fragments of graphic imagery. Recombining these elements opens into the energy of my own visual universe through a process of free association. The work evolves out of human curiosity as in archaeology or dissection, becoming a series of illustrations of my own story.
Everyday life is full of mystery, uncertainty, premonitions, non-verbal communications, in which reality is not always visible or measurable. Part of the mind perceives personal existence as an independent, ongoing narrative. At the same time it is subjectively experiencing all of the information of the senses and the emotional and psychological responses of the present.
We each inhabit a moment of ordinary reality that contains an imprint of a personal and a historical past as well as an awareness of impending future. This is part of the harmonic complexity of each personal story; the moving, morphing overlaid logic of interior life that we each live.
Starting as my illustrations, these pictures are also available as unfolding images of the viewer's story. They reveal themselves slowly.
